Float at the Float Shoppe
The interior of the Float Shoppe is unique and fits perfectly in the quirkiness of Portland, OR. The shoppe is in a repurposed two-story Victorian house with a quaint porch and a welcoming entrance.
The soft nature-inspired color pallet and cozy Persian rugs settle the bustling energy from the surrounding restaurants and invite you to sit, relax, and soak your feet in a soothing foot bath.
The front desk and retail are dotted with bowls of pins, kombucha kits, and fresh-cut roses that grew right outside their window. There is a hall down the main floor that ushers private massage rooms with walls featuring paintings by local artists.
The Float Shoppe has four float options and I chose the one with an electronically closing door. The room is fitted with home decor, a robe and towels, and a private shower with Dr. Bronner’s-like body wash and shampoo.
Once in the pod, I pushed the door button and the lid slowly closed. Another button for the interior lights and then I was in blissful darkness. After a long road trip with visually stimulating landscapes, the 90 min float was the perfect meditative practice to get me back on track.
Sandra, one of the co-founders, is a positive force, giving life to the float community, and should you have any questions, she and her staff at the Float Shoppe are happy to help you.
Also, in another lovely repurposed Victorian house across the street, there is a fantastic family-owned Pho restaurant called Lela’s Bistro. I typically enjoy plain pho before a float because it's full of nutrients, easy on the digestive system, and comforting during a float.
These establishments provided a cozy evening and I would recommend the pair if you’re visiting Portland or checking out your hometown.
