Lithomancy

Lithomancy is the art of reading the arrangement of crystals in a designated space. When I was cat-sitting, I read my friend’s book on Lithomancy. The description is similar to other metaphysical readings like dreams, tarot, or palmistry. With crystals, we place meaning on them, drop them randomly, and then read the relationships between them. No two readings are exactly alike. Here, I share the different ways in which I practice Lithomancy.

To start, there’s a lot of information about crystals, from geological, optical, and mathematical, to metaphysical, spiritual, and healing. I like to synthesize information from multiple perspectives to add to the meanings of each of my crystals.

Some crystal shops have notes of their perspective for each of the crystal’s uses and properties. Read these if you like or give your own meaning into your crystals. Sometimes color, shape, or texture signify different meanings to different people.

Sometimes buying crystals at the same time can be a checkpoint for how your life is going. These hold the memories of a certain time and place and could affect how you read these crystals in the future.

A Crystal Meditation class at the Mindry taught me how to relax in a guided meditation, observe different crystal properties, and notice how both types of therapies improve the whole experience.

One of the crystal meditations used spherical selenite as the endpoint to the limbs and the top of the head. When class was over, I journaled about how the type of crystal, placement, and intention created a unique meditation experience.

Lithomancy with animals can give another layer of reading. Animals can often read our emotions and their interaction can allow less human ego and more universal energy flow.

The boundary for Lithomancy can be of any form, even a cable can create a space of importance.

Lithomancy in the sand creates indents and shadows, prevents rolling around, and makes a soft thud sound against the surrounding ocean waves. Same crystals, different Lithomancy experience.

Here I made a sort of storytelling Lithomancy with a tarot card. I arranged the wands around the card and used the space above to randomly drop the crystals. I might read this as each crystal representing the many ideas and interpretations of Justice.

When I read crystals for myself, I interpret them as a mirror or self-portrait. Maybe this design means all the different elements needed to become a Queen of Wands, appreciating the beautiful crystals that I have, and remembering this ritual that I started on 11/11/2023.

Lithomancy can also be read like a “what’s in my bag”. These were my things during the 2024 Conscious Life Expo, I already restocked my sunscreen and face cleanser but I’m still waiting for them to finish. That glass bottle of YYTP Superfood cleanser, I bought in December of 2020, with a $15 off discount that I got from always paying off my Sephora credit card. That tongue scrapper, I got during the 2017 Conscious Life Expo. That Marc Jacobs concealer brush, I use it for a hint of golden liquid eyeshadow, it was the last one there and the Beauty Advisor handed it to me like a personalized magic wand.

For something more specific about my needs, I would read into my normal spa bag. At a time when I’m naked, sweating, detoxifying, and relaxing, I make sure to create the most comfortable experience. I bring a journal, snacks, products to lock in the moisture, and a crystal deodorant. I feel satisfied when I’ve learned something about myself, especially about wellness, healing, and gratitude.
