Eye Art
During lockdown, I had fun with makeup and experimented with blue and purple eyeliner just for fun. When I moved to Los Angeles, I simplified my makeup routine to a minimal look.
Adding a bold color to my routine now shifts my makeup from professional to vibrant, allowing me to express more creativity. Incorporating color into my beauty therapy helps me explore a more expansive and fun sense of self, offering a playful way to embrace new possibilities.
Here, I vlog my research phase for a new look:
When researching new products, I start by looking into the latest trends in eye makeup, focusing on soft creams or liquid formulas with clean ingredients that fit my budget, and then watching video reviews to get a better understanding of how the products perform.
For design inspiration, I browse Pinterest, gathering ideas and looks that resonate with me.
Shopping for new makeup can be an adventure in itself, and virtual try-ons are a fun way to get the creative ideas flowing. They allow me to experiment with new colors and looks without having to physically apply them, which is a great way to explore bold choices and step outside my usual routine. Virtual try-ons often show the filter at its most pigmented, while in reality, you can find your perfect hue by applying it in light coats. While it’s a playful tool for testing out new shades, I still enjoy the hands-on experience of testing products in person to see how they truly look, feel, and last.
When I swatch, I go to a mall with multiple makeup departments and stores. I find it helpful to photograph under both natural and indoor lighting.
Here I vlog trying on my new pink and bringing a more personal meaning to my beauty ritual:
Experimenting, stepping into boldness, and carrying her message of beauty and fun, I dedicate my new color to Sister Corita Kent, knowing it represents my inner resilience. The dark pink makeup, inspired by Corita, helps me center spiritually as I embark on my adventure, serving as a visual mantra that connects my artistic practice to inner peace.
Corita’s work reflected her deep messages of love, peace, and hope. This dark pink makeup reminds me that I am brave, creative, and capable of facing anything with strength and grace.
By dedicating my new eye makeup to Sister Corita, I’m not just adding color, I’m embracing her spirit of creative independence, social harmony, and spiritual connection. I’m reminded that I possess the same power, courage, and boldness as Corita and that my eye art is a step toward living that strength.
