Cryo + Sauna + Float at Reboot Float & Cryo Spa (Mission)

Reboot Float & Cryo Spa has three locations in the Bay Area. One in Oakland and two in San Francisco. The one I visited was in central San Francisco called the Mission District. In each location, there may be floats, infrared saunas, chamber and local cryo therapy, and contrast therapy called fire & ice.

I did the trio of a cryo chamber, sauna, and float. The whole experience was relaxing and rejuvenating.

I’ve tried local cryo therapy on my face at Float Seattle and that feels like driving in a convertible but this was my first full chamber experience. Here’s a short informational video on cryo therapy at Reboot.

The cryo chamber at Reboot had different temperature options. Beginner temperature is around -165° then up to advanced at -220°. I enjoy cold water therapy at around 50° but 40° is still too cold for me to handle so I decided to start at the beginner level.

They also let me choose a song through Spotify and I went with Beyonce’s Love on Top to start dancing through the session.

For me, it wasn’t as cold as it could be, I didn’t feel the numbing sensation on my legs until the last 50 seconds of the three minutes. It was good to know that for beginners, it’s not that scary. It's actually quite refreshing, and a good way to get a quick cold therapy in a safe environment. Next time, I’ll bump the level to medium or advanced and learn Beyonce’s choreography to have more fun with it.

Before you go in, you have to dress for the occasion. They give you a towel wrap, a gator face mask, knee-high socks, thermal gloves, and fuzzy slippers. Even with all of this, you still feel all the cold, and it's fun.

Afterward, I felt more awake, chatty, and social. It’s a different kind of cold. It’s not like a windy cold, or an ice bath cold, it’s like walking into a restaurant freezer and kinda getting stuck there for three minutes.

This is a good beginner level for contrast therapy and if you’re interested in healing certain joints, local cryo therapy is a safe place to test out how cold therapy can help you.

The cryo is first in the trio because you don’t want to go in with any dampness from sweat or a shower. The sauna was a wonderful, thorough sweating experience and the float was quite relaxing.

I enjoyed the various colors inside my room and the float tank and I also really enjoyed the neck pillow options. Each float spa I’ve been to has different floaty options for resting and adjusting. This one provided two, a thinner and a thicker one. I tried the thicker one and it helped me release even more tension from my neck where I could get closer to the feeling of falling asleep which I rarely do. Float facilitator, Angela, said that she likes to put both of them under her neck for a sort of travel pillow experience.

In a traditional hydrotherapy spa, a sauna cycle goes from sweating in heat to a plunge in the cold and then resting, repeating the cycle as many times as you like. The trio at Reboot Float & Cryo is like a long version of that.

When you visit, don’t be afraid to ask for suggestions or tips. Angela and Sandra were really helpful and understanding in customizing my spa experience at Reboot.
