New Years at the Grand Spa

It was raining pretty heavily on New Year’s Eve. I took a walk around the MacArthur Park neighborhood, wading through flooded sidewalks, my shoes and socks thoroughly soaked but it didn’t matter because I was going to a spa.

Grand Spa is designed with separate spas for men and women on each floor. They even have separate elevators, ideal for those who don’t want to be bothered by the opposite sex. The women’s spa has a lounge room with recliners, lockers, 4 sleeping rooms, a dining room, a clay sauna, and a wet spa with a steam room, sauna, and three pools.

The square footage is a bit smaller than other Korean spas in Los Angeles but its cozy vibes make up for it. I feel like I‘m visiting a rich aunt who has everything.

Their wet spa was pretty great, the steam room was dense with herbal steam and the sauna provided a nice dry heat. The hot tub was way too hot though and I could only sit on the steps. I had fun floating around in the cold water and managed a 65-second plunge. I think the breathwork at the Mindry helps expand my lung capacity. After I came up from the cold water, I felt a wonderful rush of endorphins and was at total peace.

The lighting set a futuristic vibe, perfect for easing tension and welcoming new energy.

The café was closed so I’m glad I brought my favorite snacks: blueberry smoothie and chocolate sunflower butter.

After a couple cycles in the spa and a snack break, I wanted to find a spot to read.

I checked out their sleeping rooms and couldn’t help but rest my eyes for a bit. I was so relaxed that the next thing I know, it was 3:00 in the morning.

I started 2023 in a spa, how fitting! I feel pretty wonderful and will continue this tradition to start each new year.

Bring a dry brush for a full body exfoliation and a mild scrub for the neck and chest. Also, bring hydration tablets.

A moment of peace for me is dropping a tablet in my water and listening to it fizzle.

I started Spa Research in early 2022 and it has grown so much, challenging me to take better photos, try new spas and healing modalities, and talk about the possibilities of public health in a safe and relaxing way.

Thanks for checking out my blog and best wishes on your health journey.
