Cord Cutting

Cord Cutting is a meditation on the energetic detachment from a person, archetype, or habit. I have tried out several guided meditations and spent the weekend cutting cords from family members, bullies, and old versions of myself. Here is my process on how Cord Cutting has helped me.

I treat this meditation like a journal therapy practice. I set aside time to write out everything that is bothering me, time to listen to the guided meditations and time to rest afterward.

Start with a Mind Map around a person, archetype, or version of yourself that triggers traumas. The guided meditation doesn't require a Mind Map beforehand but it helps me to get everything out.

On a piece of paper, put their name in the center and write out stories, triggers, concepts, and traits connected to this person as if you’re telling everything to your therapist or best friend.

During the Mind Map and meditation, it’s ok to bring up tough emotions just remember to not dwell on them and write them as facts of your history. Practice letting go of negative thoughts, memories, arguments, shame, fears, and embarrassments.

We can do cord-cuttings on friends, family, ancestors, generational traumas, neighbors, roommates, co-workers, bosses, exes, bullies, molesters, and abusers. Also on concepts like old versions of ourselves, ego, bad habits, negative thought patterns, karmic lessons, limiting beliefs, and our relationships with food, money, and so on.

Through the guided meditations, I feel lighter, calmer, clearer, happier, stronger, and unafraid. I have less stomach aches, anxiety, fear, grudges, anger, and regret. I sense a near-clean slate between me and those whom I’ve cut cords with and the more I practice, the cleaner the slate gets.

Now when I notice negative feelings or worries arise, I journal about it for my next Cord Cutting meditation. When I think of people who used to trigger me, I don’t feel that bubbling anguish, I feel disconnected from their attempts to hurt me.

After the Cord Cutting meditation for one person and general release, the next one I would recommend is the meditation on setting boundaries which helps build a strong foundation.

Cord Cutting helps me remove myself from their energy faster, creating a safer bubble around me and a stronger wall so that those confrontational archetypes happen less or not at all.
