Muscles of the Face

I want to go to Beauty School to become an Esthetician, studying the health and wellness of the skin and products and procedures for facials.

To become an Esthetician, Beauty School programs are 600 hrs, a few hundred of which are focused on hands-on practice for facials, waxing, and technical treatments. This is in preparation for the State Board Barbering and Cosmetology Licencing exam.

The fundamentals of esthetics studies are publically posted. To get a head start, I copied down the table of contents from the standard textbook, Milady, and started studying the basics.

It’s easier to focus on complex topics like anatomy without the pressure of cramming during a busy schedule. I’m setting up my own study guides and getting familiar with the body, its functions, and how it’s organized and labeled. I enjoy learning at my own pace because it’s far less stressful this way.

Since my notes are mostly from YouTube, posted with reference to the Texas State Board and different textbook editions, I take these studies lightly, absorbing standard information and keeping myself open to updates when I attend Beauty School.

Performing facials is a layered art. There’s attention to the condition of the skin, products to use, and massage techniques. The first thing to learn to become an Esthetician is the anatomy and physiology of the face.

Here is a chart of facial muscles:

I’ve included a PDF with blank labels for your own self-study or a simple coloring page. ✌️
